Background
The Krystal Lucille Valley Farm was started in 2003 by Edward and Linda Chindori-Chininga. The farm was called Bally Carney previously but was changed to Krystal Valley Farm in 2003. Since then the farm operations has grown immensely with 75 regular farm labourers and production across diverse commodity chains including oranges, passion fruit, cattle, pigs, tobacco, soya beans, wheat, maize and tomatoes.
The farm sits on lush land and fertile soil, just a few hours outside of Mazowe. Two large dams that sit within the farm property ensure adequate irrigation to supplement rainfall.
Edward and Linda always wanted the farm to be both an example of successful and modern agriculture in Zimbabwe, and a means to create impact in the local community. They built a school on the farm property and have regularly used farm profits to provide food aid to impoverished families in the surrounding communities.
When their daughter Krystal joined the farm management she continued these traditions. She invigorated dormant commodity chains and expanded the farm’s client base and value added products, and she created the women in agriculture training and consulting services.
